Examining Yonfer’s Food-Security Initiatives Through Bountiful Harvests in the Fields

When granaries are full, the nation is at peace. On October 16, the 46th World Food Day was observed, with this year’s theme being “Innovate Today for Food Security Tomorrow.”

Drawing on regional soil and climate characteristics as well as crop nutrient requirements, Yonfer integrates product innovation with service innovation to address farming challenges, disseminate proven practices for bountiful harvests, and help ensure stable and increased agricultural yields, thereby contributing to the goal of securing China’s food supply.

Product Innovation

Turning Scientific and Technological Achievements into Bountiful Harvests in the Fields

Differing soil conditions and varying crop requirements impose more stringent demands on fertilizer formulation and performance.

Yonfer, guided by the principles of “high efficiency, specialized formulation, environmental friendliness, and functionalization,” has advanced collaborative innovation between production processes and agronomic practices. It has successfully overcome a series of critical technical bottlenecks, including high‑tower technology for producing high‑phosphorus fertilizers, AZF technology for manufacturing sulfur‑based compound fertilizers, and the dual‑control DCR process for developing slow‑release and controlled‑release fertilizers. Today, the company boasts an annual production capacity exceeding 10 million tons of various phosphate and compound fertilizers, with its flagship compound fertilizer consistently ranking among the industry’s top performers in both output and sales, thereby supporting the realization of crops’ full yield‑enhancing potential.

For staple crops such as rice and corn, Yonfer has developed a dual‑control, dual‑regulation technology and created the “Yangfeng Dual‑Control” fertilizer. This formulation extends the fertilizer’s efficacy by conserving nutrients and minimizing losses, while simultaneously optimizing the soil environment and promoting root development, thereby enhancing the crop’s ability to absorb and utilize nutrients and better meeting its nutritional needs at different growth stages.

Peng Lei, a farmer in Huantai County, Shandong Province, enjoys a bumper harvest

In Zanjia Village, Xincheng Town, Huantai County, Shandong Province, farmer Peng Lei applied the “Yangfeng Dual-Control” technology to his cornfield, resulting in plump kernels and well‑formed ear tips. The dry grain yield reached 5,005kg per acre, an increase of 680kg per acre compared with the control plot, representing a yield gain of 15.72%.

In the oilseed crop sector, Yonfer has partnered with the Oilseed Crops Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to advance the industrialization of ARC bio‑coupling technology, addressing challenges such as the poor compatibility and easy inactivation of microbial inoculants with compound fertilizers. Through a “fertilizer‑carried microorganisms, synergistic fertilizer‑microbe” approach, they have developed specialized “Gao‑Fu‑Zhuan” fertilizers for peanuts and soybeans. In Heihe City, Heilongjiang Province, demonstration plots treated with the “Gao‑Fu‑Zhuan” soybean fertilizer achieved a yield of 928 kg per acre, a 34.7% increase over the control plot. In Fangcheng County, Henan Province, demonstration plots applying the “Gao‑Fu‑Zhuan” peanut fertilizer recorded a dry‑weight yield of 2,495 kg per acre, representing a 34.66% yield boost compared to the control. From breakthroughs in production processes to the development of crop-specific fertilizers, Yonfer leverages technological innovation to drive product upgrades, ensuring nutrient delivery is better aligned with soil characteristics and crop needs.

Service Innovation

Bringing Harvesting Expertise to More Farmlands

For high‑quality products and cutting‑edge technologies to deliver real results, they must be supported by agrochemical services tailored to local climate, soil conditions, and farming practices. Yonfer’s agricultural service and marketing team of more than 1,300 professionals spends the entire year in the fields, providing soil testing and diagnostics, customized solutions, and ongoing guidance to help farmers identify problems and make effective use of advanced technologies, ensuring that yield‑boosting measures are implemented precisely on each field. This year, Yonfer launched the “Crop King Competition” nationwide, centered on the theme of “Cultivating High-Yield Champions to Safeguard China’s Food Security.” Over the past three months, a total of 79 events were held, attracting 14,500 farmers. By integrating field demonstrations, on-site yield assessments, and technical exchanges, the initiative enabled farmers to both witness tangible yield increases and gain insights into the underlying fertilization and management practices.

Xie Yunguo, a rice farmer in Toutuo Town, Zhejiang Province, has been named the "King of Early Rice"

In Toutuo Town, Huangyan District, Taizhou City, Zhejiang Province, Yonfer has partnered with local distributors to implement soil-testing‑based fertilization formulas, provide fertilizer‑application guidance, and conduct demonstration projects. Farmer Xie Yunguo earned the title of “Early‑Rice Grain King” among 11 competitors, achieving a dry‑weight yield of 3,557 kg per acre for his early rice. His success has also encouraged more than 20 neighboring farmers to adopt scientific fertilization techniques, enabling high‑yield practices to spread from one field to many others.

Yonfer holds "Yangfeng Dual-Control" fertilizer field day in Yunmeng County, Hubei Province

Zhang Li, a farmer in Yunmeng County, Hubei Province, encountered problems several years ago, including poor corn emergence, weak plant growth, and low yields. Yonfer agronomists visited the farm to collect soil samples for analysis, and, taking into account factors such as previous fertilizer use and prolonged rainy weather during the sowing period, identified the root causes. Based on this assessment, a fertilization plan—“Yangfeng Dual‑Control + Yangfeng Bean”—was developed, with guidance on trenching for drainage and ongoing monitoring. Following these adjustments, the corn emerged uniformly, exhibited vigorous growth, avoided excessive early vegetative development while maintaining adequate nutrition in the later stages, and produced ears with tightly packed kernels and minimal barren tips. This year, Zhang Li has switched all 49.4 acres of his contracted corn acreage to Yangfeng fertilizers.

Yonfer integrates soil testing results with crop growth conditions to tailor fertilization plans to local circumstances, while continuously providing on-site guidance to help farmers master scientific fertilization and management practices. In Pingzhai Village, Anshun City, Guizhou Province, large-scale grower Yang Weijing was crowned the “Tomato King” after achieving a yield of 52,540 kg per acre. Inspired by his example, more than a hundred neighboring households have gradually refined their traditional fertilization methods, boosting tomato yields by 300 to 900 kg per acre and extending the benefits of scientifically informed fertilizer use to an even wider range of farmers.

Ensuring food security for the future hinges on every product innovation, the effective implementation of each service, and the widespread dissemination of every successful harvest. Yonfer will continue to deepen the commercialization of scientific research, enhance agrochemical services, and expand demonstration and outreach efforts, bringing innovation closer to agricultural production, enabling more farmers to benefit from scientifically sound farming practices, and contributing to stable and increased grain yields as well as the sustainable development of agriculture.
